Visakhapatnam, Nov 16: After Virender Sehwag, India's Test skipper Virat Kohli, on Wednesday (Nov 16), lauded Narendra Modi Government's decision to ban Rs 1000 and 500 notes.
Terming it a greatest move he ever witnessed in the country's politics, Kohli said,"Its the greatest move that I have seen in the Indian politics by far; hands down, really impressed." (Sehwag invokes martyr to shame demonetisation critics)
The 28-year-old Delhi dasher, who is preparing for the second Test match against England at Visakhapatnam starting November 17, said he couldn't pay his hotel bills as the old notes were no longer in use.
"I had to pay my hotel bills in Rajkot; then realised I can't after the demonetisation move; later thought could have signed the notes for fans," Kohli told media persons on the eve of the second Test.
Modi government on November 8 demonetised the old currency notes and issued new Rs 500 and 2000 notes. In a bid to curb corruption and black money the government banned high-value currency notes triggering panic and chaos across the nation.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag backed the government's move and appealed to the people to bear with the inconvenience for a better future.
Sehwag took to Twitter to invoke the martyrdom of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad who was found alive six days after being buried under 25 feet snow, after an avalanche hit his post on Siachen Glacier.
"Shaheed Hanumanthappa waited 6 days, 35ft under snow, in-45°C, in hope of being rescued. Surely,we can wait few hrs in line to rescue Our Nation," tweeted Sehwag.
Several cricketers and celebrities have lauded the Centre's move ban high denomination currency notes.
