Cyclone Vardah made landfall near Chennai on Monday. Airport operations were suspended till 6 pm and suburban rail operations were suspended until further notice. Heavy rains and winds brought down hoardings, trees, banners etc damaging property. Roads wore a deserted look as rains lashed coastal parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh. Electricity supply was cut off owing to heavy winds and rains in many affected parts.
